EU-Funded Research On Terrorism Victims

CSTPV researchers Orla Lynch and Javier Argomaniz have been awarded a European Union grant under the 2009 Criminal Justice Programme for a €413,000 research project on Terrorism Victims. With their partners Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Spain and the European Network of Associations of Victims of Terrorism, the research team will assess the support initiatives for victims of terrorism in the United Kingdom and Spain. The outputs from this study will be substantial and have a tangible impact: a best practice document will be disseminated to national authorities and victims associations and a series of workshops with experts and stakeholders will be organised in Spain and UK to support knowledge transfer. Their proceeds, along with the findings from the study and in depth information about victim groups, will be disseminated through a new Victims of Terrorism Portal. The academic value of this research exercise will be advanced with the publication of an edited volume, ‘Supporting Victims of Terrorism’, based on the contributions from an international conference to be organised as part of the project.
