VOCABULARY

The Vocabulary program can help with that essential part of getting started in a foreign language - learning the words.

Key Features

Vocabulary files can be made by anyone - parent, teacher, or pupil. They can contain phrases as well as single words, and include both the English and the foreign language text. Importantly, sound files can also be used, meaning that the pupil can hear the foreign language properly pronounced, and repeated as often as needed.

The program chooses words and phrases from the selected vocabulary file either randomly or in order. They can be in English, or in the foreign language, or in a mixture of both. The pupil is asked to translate to the other language.

The pupil can speak an answer in the foreign language. This is then played back just before the correct answer is played from the sound file, so that the pupil can listen to and check his or her own pronunciation.

The pupil can write an answer, and this will be marked by the program against the original list of words or phrases.

The program also offers dictation in the foreign language. The pupil is then expected to spell the foreign words, and this is checked against the version given by the program.

Vocabulary can be used not just in learning foreign vocabulary, but also in learning English spelling, or as a reading tutor (particularly for children with dyslexia), or as an aid to learning technical vocabulary...
