A pupil of Harvey Cushing, Dott established with Cairns and Jefferson nerological surgery in the United Kingdom. He received a unique honour in modern times -- the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh in 1962. His excursions into the realm of medical history were essentially concerned with the development of his speciality and were authoritative as might be expected.
