  • WHO WE ARE

SNPsoc is a student society at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. We are affiliated to the Students' Association and are a branch of the Federation of Student Nationalists across Scotland. A number of our members choose to be a part of the society here only, more choose to be part of the FSN too. Beyond this we have members of the Scottish National Party. Those unfamiliar with Scottish politics may still realise that the SNP are the opposition at present in the Scottish Parliament.

Fundamentally, our values mirror that of the SNP. We want a Scotland independent of the United Kingdom; free to make its own decisions and free to integrate with Europe and the World from its own point of view. We'll fight for social justice, green energy, the removal of the graduate endowment, the removal of nuclear weapons and take a neutral stand on conflict. Future Scottish soldiers would deal with national defence and peacekeeping duties instead of fighting wars. See the links page for sources of more information.

At a local level we are an active bunch of students from various backgrounds across the spectrum of subjects in the University. We have campaigned actively on behalf of Stewart Hosie MP in Dundee and do a degree of work for Tricia Marwick. Some of our members are getting a foot in the door of the SNP itself and we look forward to seeing a few in Parliament in 20 years! Alex Salmond came to St. Andrews in March 2005 for an excellent talk and we shall be making this a regular event, taking a big speaker to a big venue. Other events have included dinners and nights out.

  • HOW TO JOIN IN

Joining SNPsoc is simple. We would prefer if you joined at the Fresher's Fayres in September and January in St. Andrews - but e-mail us any time and we'll get in touch - come along to one of our meetings and you'll meet a friendly society with big ambitions.

£2 gets you 1 years membership of the society, £3 for society plus the national body, the Federation of Student Nationalists, £5 is a membership offer you can't refuse - a year's membership of the above plus the Scottish National Party as a whole.

We accept anyone into our group in line with the policies of the Students' Association.
