Landscapes, Aurora Borealis and Noctilucent Cloud

I've now moved most of my non university-related pictures (mainly landscapes but also aurora borealis and noctilucent cloud) to these galleries. There's a much larger selection there than could previously be viewed on this website. At the time of writing, however, I haven't moved all of the aurora borealis and noctilucent cloud pictures so the links below to those images will still work for a while.

High-tech equipment used for the above pictures: Praktica Nova 1b SLR camera circa 1967 (I bought it second-hand many years ago for about £20, and it was fairly clapped-out even then) with original 50mm lens at f/2.8, balanced on a piece of wood! A wider-angle lens would have been better.

April 11th & 12th 2005 East Sands and eastern coastal path, St Andrews (slightly newer film equipment - see pages for details)

Noctilucent Cloud

Noctilucent clouds form very high in the atmosphere at up to around 85 km above sea level, almost in space and well above normal weather systems. In the summer at far northern or southern latitudes they can catch the sun's rays even in the middle of the night. Consequently they seem to glow in the dark. They are mainly visible from around mid-June to the end of July, but sometimes earlier or later.
