"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundemental values of liberty, equaltiy and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty ignorance or conformity." - Preamble to the party's constitution

Last year we held many speaker and panel events on a range of issues and topics. We are privilaged to have Sir Menzies Campbell as our MP in North East Fife who again gave a speech to the students of St Andrews. We also held talks from our MSP Iain Smith and the Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Tavish Scott.

Our societies aims are to:
  • Build links with and support the Liberal Democrats in St Andrews

  • Tackle apathy, encourage student participation in politics and provide a clear presence of young Liberal Democrats in St Andrews

  • Invite MPs, MEPs and MSPs from the party to give talks to members of the society

  • Campaign on both national and local issues that concern students

  • Hold a series of social events for students to meet.
