Persian Courses

Persian for beginners

Objectives and Content:

The course, which would be an introduction to modern Persian language, will focus on alphabets, words and finally sentences. You will then be able to read sentences in Persian and begin writing in the language as well translating from Persian into English and later into Persian from English. You will learn to create your own simple texts with these limited materials, both in oral composition and in writing. There is no requirement to have any prior knowledge of Persian.

Teaching:

Teaching consists of twice-weekly language classes. In each course we work on how to write and pronounce the alphabets, and then the course will be continued by some useful basic conversations. Teaching material will be provided by tutor. Iranian films and Persian language TV and radio stations will play a significant role in developing student’s knowledge of the language and culture during this course.

As of 2010 a new advanced stream has been added for those students who already have basic Persian.

Method of assessment:

This course is assessed by one exam at the end of the second semester along with coursework and class tests.
