Junior Hortus

Hortus botanicus is a Latin term for a botanical garden. The Junior Hortus at St Andrews is a Saturday Club for children of 5-12.

The Junior Hortus was founded by Bob Mitchell and Lee Cook in 1975 and is based in the Botanic Garden. Its aim is to encourage youngsters to appreciate plants; to give hands-on tuition in most aspects of raising and growing plants to fruition and harvest, and to discover the wonderful world of plants. Vegetables are grown in the polythene tunnel donated by the St Andrews Rotary Club.
