Whilst there are some great local gigs in St Andrews, you may have to go further afield to tap into the gig circuit.

Fife: Home to the fantastic Fence Records, you may find a real gem of a gig on your doorstep. Keep up to date here: http://www.fencerecords.com/gigs/

Dundee: Venues to check out include the Doghouse (http://www.myspace.com/dundeedoghouse) Caird Hall (http://www.cairdhall.co.uk/events/), Fat Sams (http://www.fatsams.co.uk/gigstickets.php)

Edinburgh: Try the Picture House (http://www.mamagroup.co.uk/picturehouse/), Cabaret Voltaire http://www.thecabaretvoltaire.com/view_events.php?type=1, Sneaky Petes (http://www.sneakypetes.co.uk/), Bongo Club (http://www.thebongoclub.co.uk/), Liquid Rooms: http://www.liquidroom.com), and keep a look out for the Edge festival during the month of August! http://www.theedgefestival.com/content/

Aberdeen: A thriving gig scene makes the drive up the A90 worth it, (also direct trains from Leuchars). Have a look at Tunnels (http://www.thetunnels.co.uk/whats-on/), Moshulu http://www.aberdeen-warehouse.com/, Music Hall (http://www.boxofficeaberdeen.com/whatson.asp?VenueID=88), The Lemon Tree (http://www.boxofficeaberdeen.com/events), and the AECC for stadium tours (http://www.aecc.co.uk/whatsonattending.aspx?searchEvent=Concerts&searchDate=01/01/2010&currentPage=1&searchType=dateEventSearch&allDates=True).

Glasgow: Too many venues here to list, but favourites include King Tuts (http://www.kingtuts.co.uk/), Barrowlands (http://www.glasgow-barrowland.com/ballroom.htm), Stereo (http://www.stereocafebar.com/), Oran Mor (http://oran-mor.co.uk/) Arches (http://www.thearches.co.uk/music.htm), Classic Grand (http://www.classicgrand.com/giglist.php) and the SECC (http://www.secc.co.uk/attend/event-listings.aspx)

There is a selection of choirs, ensembles, orchestras and bands in St Andrews. Often they’re on the look out for new members. Information is available here: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/music/Ensembles/

The Younger Hall (where the University Music Centre is housed) provides the setting for a variety of concerts and recitals, open to everyone. These include lunchtime concerts during termtime, and also evening performances from visiting musicians and groups. The programme is here: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/music/ConcertsandEvents/
