Fighting
We run weekly fighting sessions overseen by our training officers and a dedicated group of experienced re-enactors.
These take place on Sundays from 12 noon in the gardens of the Mediaeval History building or on the field behind Albany Park.
We practice rebated steel combat and have members who are experienced with all forms and styles of combat from the Dark Ages to the Tudors.
You can join the Fighters of St. Andrews on Facebook!
- When and where does fighting take place?
Every Sunday at noon, either in the Mediaeval History Gardens (through the gate at the narrow end of Market Street, opposite Frittos) or on the field behind Albany Park (Gatty). The first few sessions will be held at the Gardens, and when we change venue, we will let everyone know via email. - What should I bring with me?
If you're fighting for the first time, you should bring a pair of thick gloves (gardening gloves will do - you can buy a pair from Mica Home Hardware on South Street), a bottle of water, and dress in clothes that are easy to move in. - What will happen at the first session?
Once everyone has arrived, our experienced fighters will demonstrate for you the variety of weapons and styles of fighting that we use. You will then be taught the basics of our three most common weapons, the sword, the spear and the knife. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and we hope to help you find the weapon that is most suited to you. Weapons will be provided at the session, and in time, we can teach you how to make your own, or point you in the right direction to buy some.
