Hi I'm Gwenllian! I'm a third year theoretical physics student from Anglesey in Wales. I grew up surrounded by beautiful countryside and spent a lot of my childhood outdoors, exploring the hills of Snowdonia and kayaking around the coast of Anglesey. Right from my first walk in first year I've loved being a part of Breakaway and quickly became very involved; initially as a first year rep and then as social rep. As President I hope I can continue to share my love of hills and beautiful views with everyone and that we'll have some fun adventures along the way! |

Hi I'm Phil, a second year chemistry student. I was born in London but moved to Teesside in the north east of England and this was where my interest and love of the outdoors was born - hiking in the North York Moors with the scouts. (It's not very high, but at least it's not concrete!)
Through the scouts, D of E and friends I walked all over the North of England and have even been lucky enough to hike in the beautiful and spectacular mountains of the French Alps and Norway. When looking at Unis I wanted somewhere new with great access to outdoors so ended up here, with all of Scotland to see (even if it is only through the mist)! I also enjoy playing and watching tennis and football and being outdoors in general. |

Hello! I'm from Singapore and am studying Management and Psychology here in this totally awesome country! I lived in Germany in a small town near Frankfurt when I was younger, and loved exploring the forests and hills nearby. I very much resented moving to a city like Singapore, where a half hour stroll in a park was considered a hike, so I chose to come to Scotland, and am really enjoying exploring it with Breakaway! Being outdoors is just brilliant, no matter what season it is.
Apart from hiking, I also like reading (anything really, as long as it's good), photography, various sports, baking, collecting animal figures and doing all sorts of random things in life - like adopting horses, busking on the street, and drinking olive oil. |

Hi, I'm Edward, a second year Mathematics student. Despite having grown up surrounded by the amazing countryside of the South West of England, I cannot claim to have been a lifelong fan of the outdoors. This begs the question of how any love of hillwalking ever came to me in the first place.
Put simply, I don't really know. Yet somehow, throughout my teenage years, I began getting increasingly involved with outdoor pursuits, especially kayaking. It wasn't long before I discovered that I was always excited by the prospect of any kind of 'expedition'. Perhaps because of this, shortly into my first year in St Andrews, I signed up to a 'Canoe Across Scotland' expedition. This trip awoke me to the scale, diversity and splendour of Scotland. Hello! I'm Christine, a 2nd year geography and maths student from the town of Helensburgh on the
west coast of Scotland. Being from Scotland, surrounded by hills and living in such an unremarkable
town with nothing much to do, hillwalking was something that my family and I would do nearly
every weekend…though when I was younger it would take quite a bit of persuasion to get me to go
with them! The majority of my most happy memories are those that I have had while hillwalking,
whether it be in Glen Coe or while visiting family in the Outer Hebrides.
While St. Andrews is an amazing town to study in, the one thing that I have noticed that is lacking
are the hills! This is why I love Breakaway so much and can’t wait to go on more trips over the next
year, no matter what the weather is like. When I’m not in the hills you will most probably find me at
the Whey Pat, playing the piano or off travelling (preferably somewhere a little warmer).

I'm a second year Mathematician and I've been to every weekend Breakaway trip since my first year, even missing 15 minutes of my tutorial nearly every week of first semester to sign up for trips. While my commitment to other societies have waxed and waned, Breakaway has never taken second place and has been some of the best fun I've had at this university so far. It's not all about hill-walking though and I hope that as social representative I can organise some great events this year with Christine to bring us all together in St Andrews as well as on our trips. |

About Me: |
Hello! As the only Canuck on the Committee, I have come to realize the importance of promoting the national pastimes of hockey and watching America lose at sports. I have had a great time being involved with Breakaway, hiking in all manner of conditions, particularly when Scotland has seen fit to shut all highways due to light snow dusting and slightly cool weather. I have fostered a love of the outdoors with my youth spent chasing beavers and trapping moose across the Great Lakes.
I am in the midst of studying a Management-Modern History combo. Coming to Scotland was a decision that has been rewarded in many different forms, not least in the balmy climate. It's a beautiful country and I have appreciated the opportunity to get out and experience it. I generally enjoy trying new things and partaking in adventures of all sorts. I like to get outside and hike hills and have a good time, other interests include canoeing and blaming Quebecers for bad weather and slow Internet. |

I am a first year from Berkeley, California, where I grew up going on local hikes. I study Sustainable Development and History and am an avid member of the St Andrews Women's Shinty team. I love old movies, getting to know people and wandering around beautiful places. I've gotten to spend my summers playing and hiking in various parts of California, including the beaches of Big Sur and the Sierra mountains. Getting to know John Muir's homeland a bit better has been really exciting for me, though the rain and cold are very new. I've had really wonderful adventures seeing rainbows and learning about waterproof clothing so far with Breakaway, and I can't wait to spread the word as Publicity Officer. |

I'm a third year Psychology student from Washington state (on the west coast of America). I've not gone on many Breakaway trips as I only joined this year, but I have always loved hiking and spending time outside. I love exploring the hills of Scotland and am looking forward to being a more active member of Breakaway over the next year. As ball convener, I am also excited about helping to make the Adrenaline Ball as much fun this year as it was last year, if not more so. I'm a second year neuroscience student, born and raised in Washington, DC. I spent a year when I was young in Bhutan, where I first fell in love with mountains. Growing up, I spent a few summers in the French alps, where we did a lot of hiking. I moved to Zimbabwe with my family over the summer, where I hope to continue exploring the natural beauty of the mountains. I really enjoy being outdoors and hiking and want to explore as much of Scotland as possible. |

Hello! Part of the USA invasion, I grew up in a small town in northeastern Massachusetts.
From a young age I loved the outdoors and would often go fishing/hiking/kayaking with my
family. As I got older I would often do day trips up into the small peaks on the coast or the
slightly larger ones in the Appalachian/ White Mountains. I also picked up skiing and often
go with my brother to the slopes in the winter. When I started hiking in Scotland I was
(quite literally) blown away. I think I'm addicted to the Scottish hills and can't wait to
explore them further!
I am a second year studying IR, Russian, and Economics. I enjoy reading, root beer, anything
outdoors, spending time with friends/family, and anything fun. When I'm not hiking I can be
found procrastinating, playing soccer, scheming with friends, or giving Fugde a mohawk. |
