Alright, so you found my list of keywords...This is all true, and contained in the rest of the site. So here you go: Breakaway is the university of Saint Andrews hill walking society. We are the biggest society affiliated to the university, and organise walks and hikes at least every second weekend. There are plenty of social events too, every Tuesday we have a social evening in the Byre Theatre bar. We sometimes use st andrews as our starting point, but more often venture out into the Scottish countryside, doing both day trips and weekend trips. We do sometimes go down to the English Lake District too, for a long weekend. The Isle of Skye is another popular trip, it's a long drive but well worth it, an utterly spectacular and unique landscape, just look at the photos in this site.
Hiking and hill walking are of course our main activities, but we are a very active group, and combined with social events you can do something with Breakaway just about every week! From night hikes, Easter egg hunts round the town, navigation evenings, and just random parties. To serious Munroe bagging all over Scotland. On the other hand if you just fancy a bit of rambling or hiking then we always provide for that too.
So when you want to escape the three streets of St Andrews, or just get away from everything golf related (And a lot of St Andrews is to do with golf and golfing shops)... Come to Breakaway!
It's worth noting, that we're not really associated with the other mountain/climbing club, the St Andrews Mountaineering club. Breakaway's focus will always be on hiking
and walking, hikes, rambles, strolls, walks, wanders, meanders. We don't do rope work or climbing, at most we'll do a bit of scrambling.
