Research interests:

Physics education research, in particular
  • Student-centred learning methods such as problem-based learning and enquiry-based learning.
  • Enhancing problem-solving ability in physics.
  • Testing and enhancing conceptual understanding.
  • Multimedia in physics learning and teaching.

Since 2009, I am leading the QuVis project developing animations and visualizations for the learning of quantum mechanics concepts, see www.st-andrews.ac.uk/~qmanim.
I am one of the co-directors of the St Andrews Centre for Higher Education Research, www.st-andrews.ac.uk/cher. I am also a member of the Institute of Physics Higher Education Group Committee, which organizes one-day workshops on topics relevant to physics education.
