Transport
To see if anyone is commuting from the same region as you, explore the University's Liftshare map (PDF, 126 KB). To maintain the anonymity of users, this map does not provide enough detail to identify where anyone is travelling from in any detail - it merely shows the general area where they start their registered journey.
Getting around St Andrews and the local area
Have you considered the following transport choices (even once a week can make a big difference)?
Walking
- Ideal if you live and work in St Andrews: it's healthy and free!
Cycling
- It's quick to get around town, cheap to run, keeps you fit and healthy and you don't have the problem of looking for a parking space.
Bus
- View details of the Go Flexi service, which accomodates travel between areas of Fife that are not covered by regular bus routes.
- View timetables for Stagecoach buses to, from and within St Andrews.
- See the Traveline website to plan other journeys by public transport. You can even get bus times sent to your mobile phone.
- The University has been working with Stagecoach to provide discounted fares for students. For information on the Unirider and other reduced price tickets, take a look at www.stagecoachbus.com.
- Stagecoach also provide a range of fares for discount travel including the new Megarider.
- View other ticket options available through One-Ticket and PlusBus.
Car sharing
- The University has introduced a car share scheme for staff and students so if you do need to use a car you can still help reduce emissions and congestion.
- There are also a number of other ways to reduce the environmental impact of driving, ranging from your choice of car to your driving habits.
- The University has arranged an Environmental Transport Agency discount scheme (PDF, 2,026 KB) for car insurance.
