Risk Assessment
The University of St Andrews has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure that both student and staff health and safety issues are addressed before conducting fieldwork (research out with the University complex).
Before conducting research in the field (this includes interviewing in people's homes, interviewing in the street, not just working abroad) you must submit a report to your departmental Safety Committee - not School Ethics Committee - to address the potential risks involved with your research. The University also has a fieldwork Sub-Committee, which oversees the health and safety aspects of School/Unit fieldwork in general. This committee also provides a mechanism for approval of all fieldwork that involves a significant foreseeable risk.
Fieldwork/Research Assessment Form
If your department does not have a Fieldwork/Research Assessment Form please complete the University of St Andrews Fieldwork/Research Risk Assessment Form (RTF, 157 KB)available from the Environmental HEalth and Safety Services website and submit to your departmental Safety Committee or Forms direct.
