Overview
The University seeks to resolve differences between the student and the institution as fairly and as effectively as possible.
Appeals, complaints and discipline describes the procedures that apply to appeals against academic judgements, complaints (whether about an academic or non-academic provision), and disciplinary cases (whether in an academic or non-academic context).
13.1 Academic Complaints and Appeals
Appeals, complaints and discipline outlines the procedure involved in responding to complaints and appeals made by students regarding:
- Examination/assessment marks and grades
- Award of degrees and their classification
- Progression and discontinuation of studies
- Inadequate provision and/or supervision
- Harassment/bullying affecting academic performance
13.2 Non-Academic Complaints and Appeals
Appeals, complaints and discipline outlines the procedure involved in responding to complaints and appeals made by students regarding provision of services. (This procedure excludes complaints and appeals against the Students' Association and Athletic Union, for which separate procedures exist.) Areas covered include:

13.3 Student Discipline
The Director of Student Services has responsibility for operational monitoring of discipline throughout the institution.
The , revised in September 2008 covers academic misconduct when it occurs in the context of assessed coursework submitted by undergraduate students and taught postgraduate students. It defines the categories of academic misconduct and outlines how the University deals with allegations of this nature.
The Students' Association has a member of staff whose duties include assisting students who are going through the complaints, appeals or discipline process.
