Waste and recycling
Changes to Waste Collections in St Andrews
Fife Council is about to change its waste and recycling collections in the remainder of East Fife to fortnightly collections. To raise awareness of this change and to answer any questions, the Council's Environmental Services team are holding a series of Information Evenings. One of these will be held in St Andrews Town Hall at 7:30pm on Wednesday 6th February.
Waste Minimisation
In 2005/06, the University increased its recycling rate to 22%. Yet despite this, the amount of waste sent to landfill increased. Please help the University to reduce this quantity.
Recycling
Recycling helps to reduce the environmental impacts associated with disposal to landfill as well as cutting down on waste management costs. The University of St Andrews is committed to achieving a more sustainable way of working and planning for the future, as outlined in its Sustainable Development Strategy 2005-2009.
Since April 2004 a recycling programme has been phased in across the University and now covers all Schools, Units and Halls of Residence.

Recycling in town
There are a number of Recycling points around St Andrews (PDF, 114 KB) that can be used to recycle a range of materials, from glass and plastic bottles to textiles. A recycling centre has recently been opened near Morrisons, which will accept and even wider range of materials, including batteries.
Feedback
All feedback is encouraged. Contact the Environment Team (environment@st-andrews.ac.uk) with any comments or queries on the recycling scheme.
