Undergraduate funding - full time study

Home students

Home students are eligible to apply for a loan to cover tuition fees and living costs via their Local Education Authority (LEA) and the Student Loan Company (SLC).

EU students

EU students are eligible to apply for a loan to cover tuition fees only from the Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS).  For further information please see students living in the European Union

Student loans

To be eligible for a loan you must meet the criteria - and also be undertaking an undergraduate degree. No postgraduate courses at this University have eligibility for a student loan.

The Student Loans Company administers student loans.

You cannot apply directly to the SLC for a student loan - you must apply to your funding body first. They then assess how much you are entitled to and tell the SLC to pay you.

The SLC administers payments and also deals with repayments from you.

You must tell them if your bank details change; otherwise, you will not receive future instalments.

Receiving your Student Loan

In order to receive your student loan directly into your bank account by BACS, you must have completed the matriculation process - this will enable your status to be updated to Registered.

The University will pass your registration details to the SLC to activate the payment of the first instalment of your student loan. The SLC should then make the payment direct to your bank account within either 3 working days of the start of the academic year or 3 working days of the University submitting your registration details whichever is the later date. If you have any queries relating to your student loan you should contact the SLC in the first instance.
