Peer Support Volunteers (PSV)

Student Services use student volunteers called Peer Support Volunteers (PSV), to help provide support to students. This can be as simple as meeting a student for a coffee or helping them move house.

Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) mirrors the diversity of the students that come through the doors of Student Services. As the team are made up from within the student body here in St Andrews, they know first hand the highs and lows of University life. Each year brings new challenges so the team stay up-to-date with their training programmes, ensuring students receive the best support possible.

Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) are fundamental to the orientation process at the start of each academic year. They can also be found at key University events such as Raisin Weekend. Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) can also be contacted through Student Services and The ASC. The Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) work closely alongside all the Student Services Advisers ensuring that the needs of all students are fully met.

One-to-Ones

Most of Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) time is spent working with students on a one-to-one basis. This can involve meeting for a coffee, checking out Societies, or even just going for a walk. Like the student body, every member of the Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) is different and this diversity is reflected in the one-to-one work that they do.

Events

Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) understand how a friendly face and helping hand can make a huge difference in the lives of all students here at St Andrews. This is why you'll see Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) around at many University events throughout the academic year. They will be there to direct you through the labyrinth of tiny streets, to guide you through the challenge of Matriculation and to share with you the highs (and occasional lows) of Raisin Weekend.

Disabilities

Student Services offers a wide range of support for students with disabilities. The highly skilled and trained Disability Advisers provide support tailored to the individual needs of the student. This support is ongoing, with annual reviews to ensure the student has the most positive University experience. With the guidance of the Advisers, Peer Support Volunteers (PSV) offers practical day-to-day support in helping students become integrated into the St Andrews' community and University life. This can include assistance with orientation of the town and academic schools, non-academic support such as socialising skills, and various other aspects of interest the student may wish to be involved in.
