The National Student Survey 2010

National Student SurveyThe University of St Andrews is again participating in the National Student Survey.

The survey gives all final year undergraduates the opportunity to voice detailed opinions on their higher education student experience. The results help St Andrews:

  • Build on our strengths and take action to improve areas where we need to do better.
  • Gather detailed intelligence and feedback from our students to help shape University policy and strategy.
  • Benchmark ourselves against other universities.
  • Give prospective students clear information which lets them make informed choices about what and where to study.

This will be the fifth year that St Andrews has taken part in the National Student Survey. In the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 surveys, students voted us the top mainstream university in the UK.

The surveys have reported high satisfaction levels among students at St Andrews, but most importantly have helped us to identify areas where we need to invest and improve.  For example, National Student Survey findings informed our decision to invest in a major upgrade and refurbishment of library and laboratory facilities and have also prompted action to improve Assessment and Feedback.

As the survey is conducted by an independent external agency - Ipsos/Mori - it allows the University to compare itself against other institutions while the wide publication of the results helps others learn about St Andrews and make meaningful comparisons with other universities in the UK.

For St Andrews students, the 2010 survey takes place up to 30 April and the results will be published on the Unistats website towards the end of the year. Participants and their answers remain anonymous throughout the survey process and responses may be made freely and in complete confidence. A full data protection statement is available from the National Student Survey website http://www.thestudentsurvey.com

If you are a final-year St Andrews undergraduate who has agreed to be notified about the survey you will receive an e-mail from Ipsos/Mori in February inviting you take part. You can also complete the survey by going to http://www.thestudentsurvey.com and following the online instructions.

The survey should take no more than five minutes of your time.

Please help St Andrews and fellow students by completing the survey and giving us the benefit of your opinions. For the results to be meaningful, we need as many St Andrews students as possible to take part.

Thank you for your time.
