Minor Injuries Unit
The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is located at St Andrews Community Hospital Largo Road, St Andrews KY16 8AR. The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at St Andrews Community Hospital can be contacted directly on 01334 465683.
The service offers treatment to all who have suffered a minor injury. Those who attend the clinic with more serious injuries will be referred to either Dundee or Kirkcaldy Accident and Emergency (A&E). Anyone with a minor injury can attend without an appointment or alternatively may be referred by a GP(Doctor) or NHS 24.
When should I visit the MIU? - Examples of minor injuries include: Sprains and strains, broken bones, injuries to your arm, injuries to your lower legs - from your knee to your foot, cuts and grazes, burns and scalds, eye injuries, minor head injuries, insect and animal bites.
What can't the MIU treat ? - The clinic does not treat major injuries, stomach pains, pregnancy related problems, mental health problems, chest pains, breathing problems, conditions likely to require hospital admission or problems already being dealt with by your GP(Doctor).
The MIU will continue to operate on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week, however, an appointment-based system will now operate out-of-hours.
From Monday 28 March 2011, members of the public will continue to be able to attend the MIU without an appointment between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
Outwith these times and on public holidays patients must call NHS24 on 08454 24 24 24 where their call will be assessed and an appointment time given.
