Changing modules or degree

Quick links:
Changing modules early in a semester
Withdrawing from modules to take extra credit later
Late withdrawals from modules
Changing degree title
Switching faculties

Q:   I'm not enjoying my modules, is it too late to change?

A:  Students wanting to make a module change should discuss this with their Adviser of Studies within the first 2 weeks of the semester.  You can't just start going to a different course and hoping it will be ok!  If you want to change modules after Week 2, you will need to make an appointment with the relevant Pro Dean (Advising).  Bear in mind that after Week 2, you will have missed 2 weeks of any module you switch to so you will be playing 'catch-up'.

Q:  I want to withdraw from a module and take extra credits next semester.  Is this possible?

A:  If it is within the first 2 weeks of the semester, contact your Adviser of Studies.  After 2 weeks, you will need to meet with the Pro Dean (Advising).

Q:  I am completely lost with one of my modules, I can't do it, and I don't want to.  Is it too late to withdraw from this module?

A:  You are not permitted to withdraw from a module just because you think you might do poorly in the examination.  Therefore, late withdrawals are not usually permitted.  However, if there are circumstances that might justify the module being removed from your record you should contact the Pro Dean (Advising) of your Faculty.

Q: How can I change my degree title?

A: You can request a change to your degree intention via the on-line Advising system.  The Pre-Advising period is a good time to make such a request.  You should check that you have taken, or are currently taking, the correct modules for the degree you wish to change to and this can be done by consulting the course catalogue. If you are contemplating a major change of direction then you should discuss your plans/aspirations with your Adviser, or the appropriate Director of Teaching, or the Pro Dean (Advising) of your Faculty (special permission may be required).

Q:  Can I switch faculties?

A:  Yes - in certain circumstances.  Make an appointment to see the Pro Dean (Advising) of the Faculty you wish to join.  The Pro Dean (Advising) is able to authorise such a change.  However, you will not be allowed to transfer into very popular subjects where admission is highly competitive.  For entry to such a subject you will have to re-apply through UCAS.
