The Academic Skills Consultant's primary role within the University is to enhance students' academic effectiveness. This is achieved by managing and providing a large range of academic skills through one-to-one consultations, short courses and modules. Academic skills are the transferable skills that are needed to help you be an effective learner.
Academic support is available on a wide range of academic topics including:
- Citing and referencing
- Note taking
- Study techniques
- Study organisation
- Reading skills
- Essay writing
- Report writing
- Lab reports
- Presentation skills
- Research skills
- Time/task management
- Exam preparation
- Any other topic that you may need to be successful in your academic progress.
Please note that assistance with content is not available.
If you would like to improve any of your academic skills, please book an appointment online (button at top of page) or contact CAPOD's Unit Administrator on 01334 462141 or via: learning@st-andrews.ac.uk to make an appointment. You can arrange to meet at a time that fits in with your studies and all meetings are kept strictly confidential.
In addition to individual meetings, workshops and semimars are available throughout the academic year and are advertised:
- in the calendar in SOAR, a Moodle course available to all students.
- via the student memo service.
- by posters in Schools, residences, libraries and other student facilities.
- via CAPOD's course catalogue.
Online resources related to academic skills and accredited Academic Skills Modules are also available.
