Car parking and the environment
Car parking and travel by car around the mediaeval and compact town of St Andrews is difficult and, as part of the University's commitment to the environment, we actively encourage everyone to use alternative means of transport to travel into and around the town such as walking, cycling, or public transport.
The message is simple – if you are coming to study at and stay in St Andrews, please do not bring a car.
We do recognise that some students travelling to and from the University on a daily basis may not have access to public transport and rely on a car. If you can car share please do so. Either way, your car must be registered with us and once you do so, you will be issued with a permit entitling you to park in designated car parks, which are David Russell / Fife Park, Agnes Blackadder Hall, and Albany Park. If you park in any other University car park you will be liable to a Civil Penalty. All of our car parks are patrolled by wardens.
You must register your car by completing the application form.
If you do not have a permit you cannot park in the designated student parking areas.
You can view a copy of the University of St Andrews Car parking regulations (Word, 63 KB).
If you are a blue badge holder, you will be issued with a pass and access to disabled person parking bays in the University. You should apply in the first instance to Student Services (studentservices@st-andrews.ac.uk).
Finally, residential streets in the town centre are narrow and congested. Please do not add to the problem by parking there. If you use designated car parks, they are patrolled and that adds to the security of your vehicle. Please remember that as a condition of using these car parks, your vehicle must be licensed and roadworthy and your permit must be displayed on the windscreen.
Further information on travel in St Andrews can be found on the Student cars web page.
