Termination of studies - undergraduates
If you do not engage with University processes or your academic performance is unsatisfactory, for example you have gained insufficient credits to progress to the next stage of your degree programme, your studies may be terminated.
If the termination of your studies is based on issues with academic progression you will be notified by the Dean or Pro-Dean that your studies are terminated and you will normally have in the region of ten calendar days within which to submit a request for the decision to be reviewed. This should be supported by appropriate documentary evidence specifying the reasons for your unsatisfactory performance. If you do not submit a request to review the decision you will have your studies automatically terminated. This decision is taken by the Dean and Pro-Dean in accordance with Senate Regulations.
If your request to review is successful, the Dean will contact you with conditions for your return to studies. If you do not meet these conditions (e.g. you do not pass the specified amount of credits within the time period given by the Dean) your studies may be terminated again.
If your request to review is unsuccessful, you may have a further right of appeal to the Senate of the University. See Policy on Student Academic Appeals and Academic Complaints.
Full details on the acceptable grounds for appeal and the processes involved are outlined at Appeals, complaints and discipline which can also be found at Current Students > Rules and Regulations.
International students here at St Andrews on a Tier 4 visa should be aware that any terminations will be reported to the UKBA and their visa curtailed.
