Termination of studies - undergraduates

If your performance is unsatisfactory and you have gained insufficient credits to progress to the next stage of your programme, your studies may be terminated. This decision is taken by the Dean and Pro Deans in accordance with Senate Regulations.

If you are in this situation you will be notified that your studies are being terminated and you will normally have in the region of ten calendar days within which to submit a request for the decision to be reviewed. This should be supported by appropriate documentary evidence specifying the reasons for your unsatisfactory performance. Students who do not submit a request to review the termination of studies will have their studies automatically terminated.

If your request to review is successful, the Pro Dean (Advising) will contact you with conditions for your return to studies.  If you do not meet these conditions (e.g. you do not pass the specified amount of credits within the time period given by the Pro Dean) your studies may be terminated again.

If your request to review is unsuccessful, you will have one further right of appeal to the Senate of the University. Any such appeals should be submitted to the Executive Officer to the University  Senate within one calendar month of receiving the outcome of the review request.

Full details on the acceptable grounds for appeal and the processes involved are outlined at Appeals, complaints and discipline, which can also be found at Current Students > Rules and Regulations.
