Induction - postgraduates

The University provides induction programmes specifically for postgraduate students at the beginning of the academic year - one for Masters students, another for MPhil and PhD students. The PhD Induction is intended to help you make a smooth transition from undergraduate/masters to research student.  It focuses particular attention on student and supervisors’ perspectives of research, and on how you can make the most of your research and development opportunities as a PhD student. All postgraduate students are strongly encouraged to attend their Induction, details of which are given on the webpages for new postgraduates. For all new MPhil & PhD students, booking and further details regarding the PhD Induction can be found on the GRADskills webpages. Many individual Schools also provide an additional induction to welcome their new postgraduates and to address discipline-specific topics and regulations related to postgraduate study and research. In addition, all new students at St Andrews can attend optional Orientation Week events.
