Faiths

St Andrews has various vibrant faith societies: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, as well as a developing Interfaith Steering Group. All faiths (and those with no faith) are welcome to the Chaplaincy, situated in Mansefield. We can put people in touch with those of their own faith.

The Chaplain is the creative link between the faiths represented at the University, in particular the major ones, supporting and assisting them in their various activities.

The Chaplaincy offers hospitality to the many and varied faith societies and a place where all major faiths, or groups within major faiths, are respected and welcomed. It is a place where people of different religions and belief backgrounds regularly come into contact with each other, opening the way for dialogue and friendship. People are welcome to attend each other’s worship, e.g. Muslim Prayers, Jewish Shabbat, Christian Services, Pagan festivals, and also attend each other’s societies.

Interfaith events are held each year, where topics such as Our understanding of God, Our life style, Our sacred book are presented and discussed. The Chaplain seeks to encourage interfaith dialogue.

The Chaplain also plays a key role in anti-discrimination matters, offering support, help and advice for those facing discrimination in connection with faiths. He is able to take forward any issues or concerns which groups or individuals may have, and make representation on their behalf to relevant people within the University.
