Chaplaincy
The Chaplaincy, situated in Mansefield, opposite the Students’ Association, is used by a variety of students and staff for quiet and reflection, for meetings and for social activities. It is used in particular by Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan societies, and has a Muslim prayer room. The Chaplaincy is a place for coffee, tea and relaxation, and has a garden and barbecue.
The University Chaplain, Donald MacEwan, and his team, provide support for students offering:
- A sympathetic listening and confidential ear.
- Someone to talk to in a crisis.
- A sounding board.
- Hospital visits for you or someone you know.
- Support in emotional or spiritual issues.
- Space to search for meaning of life.
- Support when all else fails.
- Space for you to explore your faith or no faith (of whatever kind).
This may involve situations of stress, personal relationships, faith or non-faith issues, bereavement, family worries. This is open to those with no faith or with faith. There is never any religious pressure.
The Chaplaincy keeps details of where various faiths are meeting, and is always willing to put people in touch with, where possible, students sharing the same faith, or with the nearest faith group. Christian worship, in the University Chapel on Sundays during term time, is led by the Chaplain with the Chapel Choir. Distinguished visiting preachers, from diverse Christian backgrounds and traditions, preach throughout the academic year.
