Student Surveys
Student surveys are a vital factor in guiding university policy
Each year, the University seeks a variety of ways to gather your views about a range of activities, and to reflect upon the results. In addition, there are a variety of external agencies which also, through us, approach students for their options.
We take all such surveys seriously as a mechanism for understanding student views. Some have significant external consequences; others are internal and confidential. It is our intention that we endeavour as far as possible to coordinate and focus these requests, but also that we let you know what surveys you will be asked to answer, why, and what we do with the results.
We now have a list of all the Student Surveys (PDF, 8 KB) we are expected to run this year, the target group, and what happens to the results. Please be assured that we are rigorously protective of your personal details at all times. If you are approached by any external body which is not endorsed by the University (provided in the Student Surveys link above) and about which you are uncertain, you should not respond. Advice about such issues can always be obtained from the ASC on 01334 46 2020.

i-graduate Student Barometers
The International Student Barometer and Student Barometer are conducted by the International Graduate Insight Group (i-Graduate), an independent benchmarking and research service collaborating with over 260 education institutions worldwide. A summary of the results from the University's participation in these barometers are available for the Student Barometer Autumn 2008 (PDF, 1,061 KB), the Student Barometer Summer 2009 (PDF, 1,600 KB), and the Student Barometer Autumn 2009 (PDF, 2,143 KB).
High Flyers Survey
The High Fliers survey is conducted each year by an independent market research company who recruit campus representatives at thirty of the leading UK universities to survey final year undergraduate students about their career intentions, career planning progress and their use and rating of their careers services. The survey is paid for by employers who subsequently purchase the data. High Fliers are usually willing to give each university's Careers Service a copy of their university's survey data.
The High Fliers survey for 2009 showed that the St Andrews Careers Centre was used by a greater proportion of undergraduates (at 86%) than any other in the UK, the Careers Centre's website was also the most heavily used at 81%. In 2009, teaching was the most popular sector for applications followed by voluntary work, research and development and the media. A much higher proportion of students, one third, intend to go on to further study than is the case at most other leading universities.
