International student events

Student Services' international advisers have been working to organise trips and events for our international students as an opportunity to see the sights of Scotland, and meet fellow students.  See our international students section for more details on previous and upcoming events.

Project Zambia 2011

After a successful pilot in 2009, Project Zambia is running again in 2012! The website has information on upcoming fundraising events, and how you can help our team make it to Zambia in May!

In Zambia 1.2 million people live with AIDS, that's 17% of the entire population! Of this 710,000 are ORPHANS. In a country struggling with TB, Malaria, Cholera and AIDS, the first stage in a response to this is understood to be the education of disease prevention; this is the focus for PZ. However some aspects of this project are unusual. PZ is a unique venture combining St Andrews University and a non-governmental organisation - Sport in Action (SIA) based in Lusaka, Zambia. SIA have been working tirelessly using sport as a vehicle to educate Children in city and rural communities. The partnership between the two offers the chance for the project to be sustained at a point when 89% of children under 14 are HIV negative. We have a chance to help build a generation now.

Why sport?

Sport is one alternative to bringing people together. Zambia has 73 languages and many more dialects. Sport is a common language worldwide. It allows our students to interact and teach children who otherwise may not understand or simply care. PZ combines Sport with Counselling skills and converts joint activity and games into personal and life understanding.

Ongoing timetable of surveys

In terms of monitoring the Student Experience, we have regular, university-wide, surveys asking your opinion and assessing your satisfaction levels in a vast range of experience-related issues, from learning and teaching through to our accommodation, value for money, and social opportunities.

All students will be invited to participate in surveys relevant to them demographically (some surveys, for example, will only go to final year students, some to postgraduates, some to all students). If you are in any doubt as to whether an invitation is genuine or not, check out the Surveys page which lists the surveys which you can expect to be invited to join this year.
