Students at St Andrews have a real drive for success
Expectations of university life
and throw themselves entirely into student activities
The basic purpose of going to university is for education and to obtain a degree. However, people choosing a university education also have their own individual expectations of the university experience, and of their prospects upon obtaining their degree. Prospective students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, making the task of managing individual expectations challenging for any university.
Starting university is a major transition period, involving new experiences, new people and new surroundings. It is a time of great anticipation, often with equal measures of excitement and fear of the unknown. The following information has been written to help prepare for the changes ahead:
- Making the leap from school to university.
- Returning to study after a break or as a mature student.
- Coming to study from another country.
For more information on what to expect from St Andrews take a look at the Orientation pages.
There are plenty of universities in the UK, so why come to this one?
What features of a university most matter to you when choosing which university to go to?
We are keen to ensure that we give you enough information that you need, but that we don't mislead or overload you. We would rather have students who make an informed decision that St Andrews is not for them, than have someone come here having listened to marketing which they feel may have misled them. So we will be as honest as we can possibly be about what life is like here. If you decide to come, we hope that you will not be surprised at what you find.
Make sure you check out the information for Prospective Students. More importantly, why don't you pay a visit prior to application? See for yourself!
