University values
The University currently does not have an explicit set of institutional values, but many of our key beliefs and approach to the future can be seen in our University Strategic Plan 2008-2018 (PDF, 354 KB).
Some key values highlighted in our 600th Anniversary materials include:
Having long horizons
We’re proud of our 600 years of history and the impact we have on the world around us.
Staying small
We value our close-knit University community and ability to make links between Schools and Units.
Leading the academic field
We value our excellence in teaching and research.
Taking Scotland to the world
We value our place on the world stage, and the fact that we can contribute to matters of a global concern.
Opening our doors widely
We value the diversity of our staff and students and want to ensure that the very best students, regardless of background, can study here.
Looking after students
We value the fact that we provide an excellent student experience which the whole University community works together to provide.
At local levels, some individual Units have found it helpful to create their own set of values, an activity that usually involves all the staff. These values can inform team spirit, workplace attitude and behaviours, and can be included in local Q6 conversations.
