Direct Dialling Inward (DDI)

A major feature of the university telephone system is the ability to dial in directly to an extension from outwith the University.

If you are calling a School or Unit extension prefix the number with 46 for extensions which are set up with the appropriate class of service.  Thus extension number nnnn may be dialled from outside the University on St Andrews 01334 46nnnn, or from outside the UK on +44 1334 46nnnn. However, not all extensions are enabled for DDI.

Student Halls of Residence bedroom telephones are enabled for DDI, but use the prefix 01334 42 followed by the room extension number. Information relating to these numbers can be obtained from the ResTel office on extension 7221.

Instructions for dialling if you are calling a student Halls of Residence bedroom

When using the direct dial facilities, please bear in mind that the number of simultaneous direct dial calls is limited by the number of direct dial trunks available on the University exchange. This is particularly relevant during peak student traffic periods: Weekday evenings 1900 - 2100.

For this reason, please try to keep the duration of your direct inward dial calls as short as possible during the peak student traffic periods.
