Class of Service
Each telephone extension on the University's private branch telephone network has been set up with a predetermined class of service which dictates the restrictions, if any, that are placed on calls that can be made from that extension. This will determine whether your extension has internal, local, UK, or full international calls access.
It is the responsibility of school/unit heads to define the classes of service on the telephones within their departments. There is no pre-determined rule that governs which class of service is applied to which telephone.
For students in Halls of Residence, your telephone's class of service is fixed and is not open to change. If you do not set up an account to allow you to make outgoing calls, you will only be able to make internal and emergency calls from your telephone. Contact the ResTel Helpdesk on extn 7221 or email restel@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Staff members email Telephone Office to request a change to the class of service on your telephone extension.
All telephones can dial (9) 999 for the Emergency Services regardless of Class of Service
