Renewable energy

In August 2008, the University increased the proportion of its electricity sourced from "Green Source" renewable sources from 30% to 47%.

In the long term, the University would like to produce more renewable energy itself. A ground source heat pump has already been installed at the new museum on The Scores (MUSA), along with solar PV (photovoltaic) panels to provide electricity.

The University has also commissioned a study to look at the possibility of installing a biomass boiler at the North Haugh - Biomass Report for North Haugh (PDF, 670 KB)

Following on from a report by the Carbon Trust (Renewable Site Assessment. North Haugh campus and Kenly Farm (PDF, 1,679 KB)), the University of St Andrews has also begun informal consultation about the possibility of developing a wind power resource at Kenly Farm, to the south-east of St Andrews.
