Energy efficiency

The University is keen to optimise its energy efficiency, and reduce the amount of energy that is wasted. This is done through practical projects, such as installing insulation, but even more can be achieved with the help of staff members. There are a number of ways in which you can help the University to reduce energy wastage.

University staff regularly conduct energy audits of university buildings to identify energy saving initiatives and opportunities for improving good housekeeping.

The University of St Andrews has a partnership with the Carbon Trust with the objective of cutting carbon emissions. They have provided consultancy support to identify energy saving initiatives and investigate feasibility of projects. This is detailed in an Energy survey of North Haugh campus (PDF, 5,664 KB).

The Estates team are constantly upgrading building controls, heating systems, lighting and water systems.

Although the energy team will carry out audits of buildings looking for energy saving projects, the people who are in the best position to spot energy and water saving opportunities are those who work in the buildings. If you have an energy or water saving idea, please let us know.
