Orange Mobile Telephone Agreement

The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has approved Orange as a partner for the provision of mobile communications to the Government and has been given supplier status by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) under the Government Telecommunications Mobile (Catalist) agreement.

One of the major benefits of this scheme is that we now have four providers of mobile telephones to the University and will be able to accommodate most requests.

The University of St Andrews has chosen to become a partner in this agreement and the Telephone Office can now offer substantial savings for business users of mobile telephones within the University.

If you already use a University owned mobile phone your existing number can be migrated to Orange, although we would prefer that new numbers are sought to avoid problems in the future. We are aware that some numbers are advertised extensively and cannot easily be changed. The Telephone Office will be able to give you more information on this aspect of the deal. Personal numbers can be migrated to Orange. However, once this has been achieved the number then becomes University property and CANNOT be migrated back to personal use

Should you subsequently wish to order a mobile telephone please complete the online order form.

A new agreement was signed in June 2006 and the new Tariffs are shown below. All CATs include a free handset to the value of £50 except CAT3 (SIM only).

CAT1 does not include replacement handset insurance.

CAT1WC includes 24 month replacement handset insurance.

NB: There is a minimum 24 month contract when renting a mobile telephone under this contract.

Full details of handsets are available on these web pages but can be discussed with the telephone system administrator on extn 2100 or via email.

Network share

Orange and T Mobile have joined forces to form "everything everywhere". This means that it is now possible to network share between the two service providers.

While driving

Those University staff that use a contract mobile telephone are reminded that use of such hand held devices whilst driving is illegal and will now attract a £60 fine and 3 penalty points.

If called, while driving, and it is safe to do so, pull over at the next convenient stopping point, switch off your engine, and take the call. If you do not wish to take a call whilst driving either switch of the hand held mobile or divert to voicemail.
