- Where can I find information about Pure and its basic features?
The Pure system has a comprehesive manual including tutorials for personal users. To access the help text, login to Pure and select the manual option under help and support. You can view a quick start guide at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/staff/research/pure/help/
- How do I add a publication (research output) or other content?
The Pure manual includes tutorials for personal users on the three ways to add a publication: create from template, import from an online source and import from file. To open the Pure manual, login to Pure and select manual under help and support.
- There are several options for self importing research outputs from external sources, e.g. Web of Science (WoS). Which should I choose?
We recommend that you try to use WoS. Importing data from this source will bring with it citation information and the publication will be ‘tagged’ with a unique identifier that will enable updates to citations in the future. We realise this may not be suitable for all disciplines.
- I have records in RefWorks - can I import these into Pure?
Using the export facility in RefWorks you can save the file in Bibtex format which can then be imported in to Pure.
- How do I edit a publication (research output) or other content?
To edit a Research output
- From the left navigation, click on Research output.
- Your research publications are displayed in the central content area.
- Click once on the publication you wish to edit.
- The publication opens in a new window. This template is the same template you see when adding new content, either from scratch or by importing from online source.
- Make changes as required.
- Click on the Save button.
This process can be applied to other types of content in Pure such as activities.
- How do I generate a report of content in Pure?
Guidelines for producing reports will be added to the personal user manual soon. If you require help with reporting, please contact rpo@st-andrews.ac.uk
- I have imported a research output using the self import facility but it is not displaying in my list. What should I do?
Please report this to rpo@st-andrews.ac.uk.
- I have added a research output and a co-author has told me it is not appearing on their list. What should I do?
This is probably because the wrong version of the person’s name has been selected. Pure accesses information from Human Resources that includes honorary, current and former employees. You may have inadvertently picked the one that doesn’t link to their live user account in Pure.
To resolve this, please edit the author, replacing the author name with the entry that has a University email address (@st-andrews.ac.uk) associated with it.
- I will be managing content in Pure on behalf of my school. How do I request this user role?
Most users will only require Personal user access to Pure. However, in some instances additional roles may be required, e.g. if submitting content on behalf of your School.
Please contact rpo@st-andrews.ac.uk. Once your access level has been authorised you will receive an email notfication.
- Can someone else add content to Pure on my behalf?
Contacts within each School may be given additional user roles to act in this capacity. Contact the Research Policy Office - rpo@st-andrews.ac.uk.
- How do I link content to a project in Pure?
Select “Projects” from the navigation menu on the left of your screen.
You will now see a list of all projects you are associated with. To create a link from any of these projects, follow the steps below:
- Select a research project by clicking on the grant title
- This will open up the template for the selected grant. Once in the project template, scroll down to the heading “Relations”.
- Under “Relations”, hover over the graphic icon for whichever content type you want to link to the grant. The content types listed are: projects, research outputs (publications), activities, equipment (Not in Use) and impacts.
- Click on the content type you want and a drop-down menu will appear. Input the relevant details (i.e. for a research publication, enter the title and the details will appear as you type).
- Then click SAVE, at the bottom of the template, before you leave the screen.
- The selected content will now be linked to that project in Pure.
NOTE: PLEASE ENSURE YOU SAVE ALL CONTENT IN PURE PRIOR TO CLOSING OR ANY CHANGES TO CONTENT WILL BE LOST
- Select a research project by clicking on the grant title
