Home Office Liaison Officer
The Home Office Liaison Officer (HOLO) acts as the key point of contact between the Home Office and the University in relation to licensing for research using animals, to ensure the smooth running and legislative compliance of the Ethical Review Process which is a set of statutory regulations laid down by UK government under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA); the Certificate Holder for the University transfers a high level of responsibility to the Home Office Liaison Officer on a day to day basis and the Home Office Liaison Officer provides advice and guidance to all users of animal facilities, particularly in relation to project and personal licences but also in a variety of other ways.
The Home Office Liaison Officer should be contacted by anyone who proposes to undertake any research which involves animals - whether licensed or non-licensed - and no such research should begin until approval has been sought, through the Home Office Liaison Officer, from the Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee.
The Home Office Liaison Officer also arranges all training for potential licencees and anyone considering an application for either a project or personal licence should speak to the Home Office Liaison Officer in the first instance.
The Home Office Liaison Officer can be contacted on tel no. 01334 462527.
