Introduction

All institutions of higher education in England are expected, by 2005, to have implemented their policy on Personal Development Planning (PDP) which forms part of the Progress File for Higher Education. In Scotland this deadline is likely to be 2006. To this end, the University has established a working party on PDP to develop an approach that fulfils requirements for national and UK wide expectations but yet also meets the specific needs of students and staff at St Andrews.

In order to bring colleagues quickly up to date about PDP this document summarises what is meant by PDP and provides links to resources that explains it in more detail and give examples of the ways both National initiatives and institution-specific initiatives are being developed to support implementation of PDP. In addition, there is a link to information about support for implementing PDP for postgraduate researchers - an adjunct to the widening postgraduate skills programme.
