Appendix 1: Summary of maternity leave and pay

1 Less than 26 weeks' service at the 15th week before the Expected Week of Childbirth (EWC). Up to 52 weeks No entitlement to University Scheme or Statutory Maternity Pay but may be entitled to Maternity Allowance from the Department of Work and Pensions.
2A 26 weeks' service by the 15th week before Expected Week of Childbirth and returning to work at the end of the Maternity Leave period. Up to 52 weeks

Entitled to University Scheme: 16 weeks full pay followed by 23 weeks at £124.88* (or 90% if this is less than £124.88 per week). The remaining 13 weeks will be unpaid.

2B 26 weeks' service by the 15th week before the Expected Week of Childbirth (EWC) and not returning to work at the end of the Maternity Leave period. Up to 39 weeks

No entitlement to University Scheme but entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay: 6 weeks at 90% of weekly earnings followed by 33 weeks at £124.88* (or 90% if this is less than £124.88 per week).
