Equal pay statement
This statement covers all staff employed by the University of St Andrews and articulates the commitment of the University to ensure that staff receive equal pay for work of equal value.
The University supports and promotes equality of opportunity for all staff and believes as part of this ethos that staff should receive equal pay for the same or broadly similar work, regardless of the differences in age, race, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender (including staff who have undergone gender reassignment), religion, sexual orientation, disability, personal circumstances, political affiliation or union activity.
In order to achieve equal pay for staff doing equal work, the University will operate a pay system, which is transparent, based on objective criteria and free from unlawful bias. The University will use the HERA (Higher Education Role Analysis) system to assist with determining equal pay.
Action points
In order for the University to put its commitment to equal pay into practice, it will:
- Build upon the implementation of the Framework Agreement by analysing existing and future pay practices for all staff including part-time, full-time, fixed term, hourly paid and those who are absent on periods of paid or unpaid leave for whatever reason.
- Carry out regular monitoring of the impact of pay practices and report them to the University Court every 3 years.
- Inform employees of how these practices work and how their own pay is determined.
- Provide training and guidance to managers involved in decisions about pay and benefits.
- Discuss and agree an Equal Pay Policy with the recognised Trade Unions.
By implementing these action points, the University seeks to ensure that staff are equitably rewarded for the work that they do.
