Disabled Workers/Students

Certain disabilities/health problems may under specific circumstances significantly affect the health and safety of the disabled person and others.

Action by Heads

Heads should take appropriate measures to inform all members of staff, research workers and/or students that those who have any form of disability/health problem, which they consider might have particular relevance to their health and safety should, in the first instance, contact their supervisor. The Safety Co-ordinator and/or Head of School/Unit may also need to be informed. Systems of work and precautionary measures, relevant to each individual's situation can then be discussed in confidence with the person concerned and implemented where required.

Advisory Services

Advice on these matters may be obtained from Personnel Services, Occupational Health Unit and Student Services.

Students should be reminded that they may take up any health and safety problem direct with Student Services where the matter will be dealt with in strict confidence.

Emergency Evacuation

Emergency evacuation procedures for persons who require assistance to evacuate a building or to reach a place of safety should be included in the School/Unit/Residence Health and Safety Policy.
