Christmas and New Year closure arrangements 2012 - 13

Closure Period
The University will be closed from 5.00 pm on Friday 21 December 2012 until 9.00 am on Thursday 3 January 2013. Statutory holidays for staff are 25 and 26 December 2012 and 1 and 2 January 2013. Staff will, as normal, be required, unless local arrangements are in force, to take the intervening working days (27, 28 and 31 December) as part of their annual leave entitlement.

General
The University will be closed with heating generally reduced to maintenance level from 5 pm on Friday 21 December 2012 until 9 am on Thursday 3 January 2013. Heads of Schools/Units are asked to advise members of staff that due to the closure period, the heat in certain buildings may not be at the required temperature for the early part of Thursday 3 January 2013. Heads of Schools/Units who consider that heating will not be required in their Schools/Units on any other day or days are asked to inform Estates (ext 3999).

Out of Hours Security
Out of hours security provision will remain in place during the period of closure. In line with normal out of hours procedure, security staff will respond to incoming calls to the University, undertake regular patrols of the estate and provide an emergency response should the need arise. Key holders who wish to come into work during the period of closure are requested to notify the out of hours staff of their arrival in University premises. To contact out of hours security dial 0, or ext 3985 (from an internal phone) or 476161 (from an external phone).

University Library
The University Library will close at 9pm on Friday 21 December, and will operate during the following hours:
- Thursday 27 December 9am – 5pm
- Friday 28December, 9am-5pm
- Saturday 29 December & Sunday 30 December, CLOSED
- Monday 31 December, 9am-5pm.
- Tuesday 1 January – Wednesday 2 January, CLOSED
- Thursday 3 January & Friday 4January, 8am-10pm
- Saturday 5January & Sunday 6 January - CLOSED
- Monday 7January – Friday 11January, 8am-10pm
- Saturday 12January & Sunday 13January, 10am-7pm
- Monday 14January – Friday 25 January, 8am-10pm
- Saturday 19 January & Sunday 20 January, 10am-7pm

College Gate and Associated Offices
College Gate and associated administrative offices will be closed from 5 pm on Friday 21 December 2012 until 9 am on Thursday 3 January 2013.

Mail Services
The University Mail Room will close at 5 pm on Friday 21 December 2012 and there will be no internal deliveries during the period of closure. Normal deliveries and collection services for Schools/Units will resume on Thursday 3 January 2012.

Salary Input and Payments
Any payments which have to be made in the December salary should reach the Salaries Office no later than Friday 7 December 2012 for payment on Friday 28 December 2012.

Telephones
The central switchboard will close from 5 pm on Friday 21 December 2012 until 8.30 am on Thursday 3 January 2013. A recorded message will be given for calls made to the switchboard (01334 476161 or internally to 0). In an emergency, callers will be advised to remain on the line and be connected to the out of hours security service. You will also be able to contact the out of hours security service by calling 01334 463985.

IT Services
The PC Classrooms in the Mathematics Institute and the Irvine Building will be available on a 24-hour basis via Access Controlled doors over the Christmas/New Year period.
The IT Service Desk in the Main Library will open:
