Case for Support (SELF)
Please provide a concise case (usually between 2 to 4 pages A4) to support your application for funding. The case for support should be completed as part of the application form downloaded from the CAPOD website. Each of the following sections must be completed, if only to explain why it is not applicable.
It is not necessary to include a CV or other personal history as part of your application.
Advice on preparing a case may be sought from Dr Heather McKiggan-Fee, x2334 or email capod@st-andrews.ac.uk.
- Project Title: be clear and succinct
- Aim(s): one or two paragraphs describing the overall aims of the project (this will provide the basis of the project summary on the SELF website)
- Methods: description of how the project will be implemented, with specific reference to how it links to the Enhancement Theme(s)
- Module(s) Affected: by the project, and how the project constitutes innovative practice for this module
- Detailed Costing: breakdown of the cost of all resources requested, such as staff time (including number of hours and rates of pay), equipment, travel expenses etc. The standard rate of pay for an undergraduate intern is £180 per week. If employing research postgraduates this should be costed at the appropriate hourly rate of pay (eg research assistant, tutoring, clerical). Note that we do not cover travel or conference fees to disseminate the outcomes of funded projects.
- IT Support Issues: if your project proposes to use computer software or hardware, Web2.0 services, etc. you must confirm that the proposal is feasible within the University setting. In addition to consulting School IT Officers, you must seek advice from IT Services via the helpdesk (eg for information on educational prices for software). Written confirmation of feasibility must be provided. Before proposing the purchase of any recording equipment (eg video cameras, digital audio recorders) you should first consult with CAPOD and Media Services to see what equipment is available to borrow.
- Copyright Issues: any project that involves the use or production of potentially copyright material should be reviewed by the University's Copyright Officer (email copyright) - written confirmation of this must be provided.
- Time Course: proposed time course of the project with specific targets (please ensure proposals are realistic bearing in mind the constraints of the academic year, eg availability of staff/students)
- Outcomes: intended outcomes including applications and benefits of the initiative
- Evaluation: how the success (impact) of the project will be measured (were the intended outcomes achieved?)
- Dissemination: proposals for disseminating the outcomes of the project more widely (beyond the mandatory final report), eg journal publications, conference presentations - see the list at Dissemination of Project Outcomes
- Other Funding: whether application has been made to other funding initiatives (eg HEA Learning & Teaching Development Funds), and if so with what result
