Preparing a FILTA application
Applications are invited to fund small project grants. Bids may be made for sums up to a maximum of £2,500 for applications from a single School or Unit, or to a maximum of £5000 for applications involving more than one School/Unit. The fund is intended to affect the learning of as wide a range of students as possible, so bids for smaller sums are encouraged. As there is a fixed total amount of money that can be disbursed (£10,000), the application procedure is competitive and not all bids may receive funding.
Applications may be made by individual members of staff or teams (from one or more Schools/Units). All lecturers and academic-related staff and other support staff who are engaged in learning, teaching and assessment activities are encouraged to apply. Normally, an individual member of staff should submit only one application. However, a second application will be considered on its merit, provided that the projects are clearly distinct, and that they have the support of the School(s) and/or Unit(s) involved. An individual may be involved in more than one team application.
The application form and case for support
The FILTA application (RTF, 86 KB) should be downloaded from this page and completed in full, together with a case for support (see next section) that should not exceed four A4 sides of typescript.
Two copies of the application are required:
- A single, signed paper copy of the application and case for support should be sent to CAPOD at Hebdomadar's Block, St Salvators Quadrangle. This paper copy should be signed by the Head of School/Department/Unit of every applicant. (Please see further Guidelines below)
- An electronic copy of the completed application and case for support should be sent to capod@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Please note the following when completing the application form:
- Provide a clear and succinct project title
- The names of all members of the project team should be included on the application form. A formal outcome letter will be sent only to the lead applicant (the first person named on the form), but an email will be sent to all members of the project team.
- If the project will draw on the expertise of a member of CAPOD and they will be making a significant contribution, this can be indicated by designating them as a consultant on the project. However, no part of the funds requested can be allocated to the CAPOD staff member.
- If the project can be considered to align with one of the Enhancement Themes this can be noted, but this is not required.
- This is a summary of the more detailed costing that must be included as part of the case for support.
- Applications must be hand-signed by the Head of School/Unit of every applicant. In those Schools where the functional unit is the department (eg Modern Languages), the application may be signed by the Head of Department instead. Note that applications that have not been signed off by all Heads will not be considered.
- Heads are invited to add their comments on the application.
