Module Evaluation Questionnaires
Module evaluation questionnaires should be issued to every student for every module they are registered on within the University. The production and analysis of these is a central service provided by SALTIRE to all Schools.
The questionnaires give students the opportunity to comment anonymously on various aspects of their modules e.g. organisation, presentation, content, facilities available, and allow the University to collect data on student satisfaction. Each questionnaire also has a minimum of three questions asked about lecturers and tutors who teach on that particular module. These questions are, by directive of TLAC, decided upon by each School independently and should be consistent for modules taught throughout that School. Each questionnaire also has space for free comment where the student is invited to highlight any aspect of the module they wish.
Response to the wide variety of questions asked is, by and large, marked on a scale of 1-5, where 1 is a positive response, and 5 is a negative response. The responses are read automatically by way of an OMR scanner and quantitative data processed into a standardised format using specialist software. The reporting software used was designed within SALTIRE by Raymond Moir and Carol Morris, and developed by Raymond Moir into a flexible and user-friendly graphing tool. The reports are presented in Microsoft Word.
Areas for concern or recommendation highlighted in these module reports should form part of the School¿s annual audit report. Specific data collected on lecturers may be used by them as evidence for promotion/probation.
