Lead 2014

National projects

Lead 2014 is a national programme run by the Youth Sports Trust (YST) working alongside Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and Sport Scotland. It focuses on how schools can utilise 14-18 year old young leaders in school based volunteering.

This year the Youth Sports Trust has linked up with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee to engage University student volunteers across Scotland in this exciting sports volunteering project and nurture the enthusiasm of young people, training them as an inspirational workforce to raise the profile of the Commonwealth Games across Scotland through physical activity and sport.

The students who are selected will be trained through a series of workshops led by YST leaders on how to facilitate a conference in March 2011  for young people in local secondary schools across the region. The aim of the conference is to develop and enhance young people’s skills and confidence as sports leaders and volunteers in their schools and local communities and give them the tools required to deliver Glasgow 2014 themed festivals and sporting events in their local primary schools.

The conference will be held at the University of St Andrews and will be based around one of the Glasgow 2014 games key themes. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to gain experience in a national sports volunteering project which can lead to a number of other national volunteering opportunities for those involved.
