Volunteering

In two years' time, Scotland is going to be hosting one of the biggest sporting events in the world - the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This is your opportunity to gain as much high quality sports volunteering experience as possible during your time at university to enhance your employability and increase your chance of being selected as a volunteer for Glasgow 2014.

The Saints Volunteering Pathway offers a step by step progression for our students, starting at a local level and leading through a series of different projects to gain the necessary experience to enable our volunteers to move onto working on our national and international projects.

Volunteering is one of the best ways to gain experience, knowledge, increase your employability levels and have fun whilst doing all of this and there is no better time to do it than whilst at University!

Have a look at the projects that we have running on the Saints Volunteering Pathway and if you are interested in finding out more information on any of these projects please contact Pete Burgon at volunteer@saints-sport.com.

Saltire Awards

Saltire Awards are the new Scottish awards designed to formally recognise the commitment and contribution of volunteers aged between 12 and 25 so whether you are already volunteering or just thinking about it, The Saltire Awards are for you!

Supported by the Scottish Government the Saltire Awards enable young volunteers to record the skills, experience and learning gained through successful volunteering placements provided by the University of St Andrews and through local and national voluntary agencies.

The Awards are split in to four sections - The Challenge, The Approach, The Ascent and The Summit and achievement is recognised in the form of Saltire Award certificates and Young Scot reward points.

More information can be found on the Saltire Awards website.

St Andrews Award

The St Andrews Award recognises and celebrates the development of students through extra-curricular and work related activities.  The majority of University of St Andrews students will already be completing work that is relevant and applicable to the award but by signing up you will also get a chance to stretch yourself and try new and interesting things that you might not otherwise have considered.  The focus is on doing all you can while still at university, to be well prepared for whatever path you follow after graduation.  Your achievement of the Award will appear on your degree transcript.

More information can be found on the St Andrews Award website.
