Training camps
Pre-season training
All 50+ University AU sports clubs are invited back to attend a week of pre-season training the week before pre-sessional week. This full-time, structured week of activities, has been organised since 2008 and has grown year on year to the extent that over 500 students, representing over 20 clubs, participated in September 2011.
Camp aims
- To welcome new students to the University so that they can organise the sporting aspect of their University life.
- To encourage all staff and students to integrate and get to know each other better.
- Encourage professional exchange between coaches and support staff.
- Provide opportunities to identify potential sports scholars and golf bursars
- Address aspects of the sport that time usually does not permit.
- Improve fitness and performances of the squads for the forthcoming University season
The programme
Sports specific and general training programmes are offered throughout the week and are tailored towards the specific needs of the clubs and individuals. Expertise from all over the UK is drafted in to make this a quality experience for all those who participate.
Social and team building activities are organised throughout the week as a relief from the hard work going on during training!
How to get involved
Pre-season training 2012 will take place form Sunday 2 to Friday 7 September. If you are interested in attending please contact the Performance Sport Manager, or liase directly through your Club committee to organise.
Rugby return the week before the main pre-seson training camp for an additional week of training. For more information regarding this, please contact the Director Rugby, david.ross@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Mid-season / warm weather training
A few individual clubs, as well as golf bursars, attend a mid-season/warm weather training camp during the inter-semester break. Details of these camps will be made available to clubs on a need to know basis.
For January 2013, there is a more ambitious project underway to get as many Saints Sport students to Pretoria for a 10-day training camp as part of a unique student experience.
